Is FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE worth buying? Combat appeal, story caveats

Shortlist it for combat and exploration

If your ideal JRPG centers on turn-based party building, exploration, and HD-2D scenery, Resonance belongs on your shortlist. IGN praises its combat and presentation; Nintendo Life recommends it to JRPG fans and highlights customization and exploration. Those strengths support a purchase consideration, especially when mechanics matter more to you than consistently polished dialogue. 1 2

Be cautious if the story must carry the purchase

The story is the clearest reservation. IGN finds parts of the dialogue and storytelling underwhelming. Nintendo Life also identifies limitations associated with the mobile-game roots despite its positive overall verdict. If uneven writing would spoil an otherwise enjoyable combat system for you, these concerns are a reason to wait rather than buy on the art style alone. 1 2

That does not make the story universally disliked. Ginger Prime calls the game worthwhile while discussing reservations about the lead character and voice performance. Treat that as one reviewer’s taste, not a promise that you will agree. 1

Compare like-for-like opinions

Use a completed-game review when the ending or overall pacing will determine your purchase. Mortismal Gaming’s video is explicitly first impressions; it can introduce the opening experience, but it should not stand in for an assessment of the complete story. 1

A current Metacritic score and the review-embargo time remain unconfirmed here. Do not use an invented aggregate to override the more useful question: will the combat and exploration make uneven dialogue an acceptable trade-off for you?

If the strengths fit your tastes, compare purchase options. If the mobile origins are your concern, read the Brave Exvius connection. If party building is the attraction, see Visions and Espers before choosing.
