Build around four battle slots

Your battle party has four characters. The overworld links towns and dungeons, and random encounters are part of exploration. Choose a party whose available actions cover the enemies you are meeting; do not confuse four active battle slots with the total story cast. GamesRadar+ Creative Bloq

Change a character’s options with a Vision

Equip a Vision to a party member to add abilities and stat benefits. A Vision is a way to expand that character’s role: compare what it adds with the moves the character already has. Mortismal PlayStation hands-on

Before a fight, check whether your four characters have overlapping elemental coverage. If they do, consider a Vision that supplies an element or support action you lack.

Read the timeline before spending a turn

The battle timeline shows who will act next. You can use available abilities, items and defensive actions; Defend strengthens your guard when an incoming hit is the immediate concern. Mortismal In-game help transcription GamesRadar+

Look at the next enemy turn before committing to damage. A character who acts first may need to support a vulnerable companion; a character who acts later may have a better opening after another party member staggers the target.

Attack weaknesses to open a stagger opportunity

Attacks reduce the enemy’s stagger gauge, and exploiting elemental weaknesses is an important way to work toward a break. Stagger opens additional attacks. Staggering every remaining enemy creates a party-wide follow-up opportunity. Mortismal IGN review

Compare the current target with your available elements. If repeated attacks are making little progress, reconsider the equipped Vision and the party’s coverage before repeating the same plan.

Try Chapter 1 in the free demo

The demo covers the opening through Chapter 1. It is a practical place to try battles and exploration before choosing a full-game edition. Square Enix GamerFuzion’s played-demo report

Use the demo checklist for the opening chapter and the story-party reference for the full cast.
